Boxing legend Azumah Nelson returns to the ring May 4
Boxing legend and three-time world champion Azumah Nelson will step back into the ring for an exhibition match against EU Ambassador Irchad Razaaly at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
Nelson, who retired from the sport years ago, will face off against Razaaly in the 'Diplo Rumble' exhibition bout, a highlight of Europe Month celebrations in Ghana.
The event, featuring ten bouts ranging from juvenile to elite levels, aims to celebrate Europe Month while raising funds for the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF).
Ambassador Razaaly expressed pride in the collaboration between the European Union Delegation to Ghana and local partners, emphasizing the significance of youth and skills development in the EU-Ghana partnership.
Aside from the boxing extravaganza, Europe Month celebrations will include various activities fostering dialogue and collaboration between the EU and Ghana.
Key among these is an annual partnership dialogue on May 6, bringing together stakeholders such as Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, EU member state ambassadors, and representatives from government institutions to discuss topics like trade, security, and sustainable development.
The month will culminate in the prestigious Europe Day Reception on May 9 at the EU Ambassador's Residence, heralded as one of Accra's largest diplomatic gatherings, further strengthening the relationship between Ghana and the EU.
