Osafo-Maafo’s dumsor timetable comment attempt to scuttle Napo's running mate bid - Mornah
Former Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Bernard Mornah has voiced concerns over recent comments made by Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Senior Advisor to President Nana Akufo-Addo, suggesting that the Energy Minister alone possesses the authority to order the publication of a power rationing (dumsor) timetable.
Mr Mornah perceives this statement as a deliberate attempt to undermine the candidacy of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh in the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) search for a running mate for 2024 general elections.
Mr Mornah alleges that factions within the NPP, harbour animosity towards the energy minister due to his opposition to their alleged corrupt practices within the government.
"Why would Mr Osafo-Maafo say this at this moment? I believe it is a ploy to diminish the energy minister's prospects in the running mate selection process because they are not in favour of him," Mr Mornah asserted.
He dismissed the accusations levelled against the energy minister, attributing them to ulterior motives aimed at deflecting blame.
Mr Mornah emphasised the existence of a higher authority beyond Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, contrary to insinuations made by Mr Osafo-Maafo and others.
During an appearance on TV3’s New Day with Berla Mundi, Mr Mornah reiterated his scepticism about the allegations directed at the Energy Minister, dismissing them as lacking sincerity and goodwill.
In Mr Mornah's view, the Energy Minister is not responsible for releasing dumsor timetables
